Setting Up Layouts for Your Products

Layouts let customers choose a pre-designed starting point in the designer. When a customer selects a layout, the current view is fully replaced with everything defined in that layout like background, upload zones, text, images, and more.

What Are Layouts?

A Layout is a special customization type. Each view inside a Layout customization represents one layout option you offer. When a customer picks a layout, the entire designer view is swapped out with all elements from that layout view. This means every layout view needs to include everything the customer should see, there are no inherited elements from the base customization.

Step 1: Create a Layout Customization

  1. Go to the "Customizations" tab.
  2. Click "Add Customization" (Create Customization in Product Builder) or duplicate an existing one.
  3. Set the "Customization Type" to "Layout".
  4. Add one view per layout option you want to offer.
  5. Open each view in the Product Builder and add all elements it should contain: background images, upload zones, text fields, and decorative images.

Important: Each layout view must be fully self-contained. Anything not included will not appear in the designer when the customer selects that layout.

Tip: Add one view that mirrors your base customization exactly. This gives customers a way to return to the original state after selecting a layout. Without it, there is no way back.

Step 2: Assign the Layout to a Customization

  1. In the "Customizations" tab, find the customization you want to add layouts to.
  2. Click the "Settings" button on that customization row. A settings pop-up opens.
  3. Find the "Layouts" dropdown and select the Layout customization you created in Step 1.
  4. Save the settings.

Step 3: Enable the Layouts Module in the Designer

  1. Go to the "Appearance" tab.
  2. Scroll to the "Modules" section at the bottom.
  3. Drag the "Layouts" module into the designer.

The Appearance tab is app-wide and controls the designer UI. If you use multiple UIs for different products, make sure to add the module to the correct one.

What Customers See

Once set up, a Layouts panel appears in the designer. Customers browse layout thumbnails and click one to apply it. A confirmation prompt appears before the view is replaced.

You can customize the confirmation text under Global Settings > Translations > Modules > "Layouts Confirm Replacement".
