Replacing Elements

The Replace option allows you to control how many images or text elements a customer can add to their custom product. Elements with the same replace value will automatically replace each other, ensuring customers only keep one at a time.

How Replace Works

When a customer adds a new element with a replace value, it automatically replaces any existing element with the same replace value. This is useful for:

  • Design categories where only one design should be active
  • Template placeholders that should be swapped out
  • Logo positions that accept only one logo at a time
  • Controlling the number of uploaded images or text elements

How to define a Replace Value

There are different places in the app to set replace values depending on the result you are looking for, but the process is the same everywhere. You will find an input field where you can set a unique value for the replacement process.

There are two ways to approach this option:

  1. You can set a replace value for an element(image or text) in your customization that should be replaced by your customer
  2. You can just set a replace value for a certain type of custom element without any preset element

Define a Replace Value for a preset Element

  1. Navigate to Customizations in the app backend
  2. Open the Customization you want to work on and open the view in the Product Builder
  3. Select the element (image or text) you want to adjust
  4. Enter a unique replace value **in **Element Options > General.
  • This replace value ensures that whenever a new element with the same value is added, it will replace the existing one.

Set a Replace Value for Custom Elements

There are different ways to set a replace value for custom elements.

  • You can set the value as a global setting if you want to use the same value on all images/texts
  • You can set the value in your Customization Profiles
  • You can set separate values for each of your design catagories

1. Global Settings
  • Navigate to **Global Settings > Element Properties **
  • Open Images & Designs or Custom Texts depending on the element type you want to replace
  • Scroll down to the Replace input field an set the replace value you want to use (if uploaded elements should replace a preset element, this vaule needs to be the same as in the Product Builder)

  • Open Images & Designs or Texts Behavior depending on the element type you want to replace
  • Enter your replace value into the input field (if uploaded elements should replace a preset element, this vaule needs to be the same as in the Product Builder)

In Customization Profiles

3. Design Category
  • Navigate to **Resources > Designs **
  • Select the category you want to adjust and open the Category Options
  • In the General settings, scroll down to the Replace input field an set the replace value you want to use (if uploaded elements should replace a preset element, this vaule needs to be the same as in the Product Builder)

Configure Replace Settings

In Customization Profiles and in Design Categories you also have a switch to enable the replace in all views option. When this option is active, adding a new element replaces all existing elements with the same replace value across all views in the product designer. This can be useful for multi-sided products like where a certain element should be repeatet.

If you are using Color Link Groups you can finde another useful setting, in Global Settings > Advanced > Advanced. Its called **Replace Colors In Color Group. **With this setting active, the colors of a newly added element within a color group will automatically be used for the color group, replacing existing selections.

Possible Use Cases

Design Categories - Allow customers to add only one design from each category by giving all designs in that category the same replace value.

Placeholders - Create placeholder elements that are automatically replaced when customers add their own elements.

Fixed Logo Positions - Set up designated logo spots where only one logo can exist at a time.

Multi-View Consistency - With "Replace In All Views" enabled, updating a logo on the front of a shirt automatically updates it on the back.

Summary

  • Replace prevents multiple elements with the same replace value from existing simultaneously
  • Set replace value in Product Builder for individual elements (images or text)
  • Set replace values in Category Options for entire design categories
  • Enable Replace In All Views for multi-sided products
  • Useful for design templates, logo positions, category restrictions, and controlling uploaded content
